My first gun

Nothing fancy just a 9mm. And yes I know it only has about enough stopping power to kill small kittens and rabbits so please spare me a little bit. But I wanted something cheap to shoot and something that would work for home defense. I think it serves my purpose as a starter gun

Don't forget to run a few hundred rounds through that one, using all your mags. Dump or clearly mark the bad mags.

I have one. I also have two in forty caliber. The early Sigmas had issues, but the newer "enhanced" models run fine in my experience. They're not tack drivers, but accurate enough for self defense ranges.

Congrats on the gun. Good quality 9mm ammo has plenty of stopping power, don't let people tell you otherwise, it has been proven that it gets the job done.

+1 on that ............

I only have Glocks (I can do everything dam near blindfolded with em) But at the end of day as long as you are holding a boom stick in your hand

YOU CAN DEFEND YOUR FAMILY AND PROTECT YOURSELF.

Thats all that matters ......... welcome to "The Club"

Re: My first gun

your not really going to use it on kittens and rabbits are you? nice gun though. Remember its all about placement regardless of if its a tomahawk missile or a .22. Get good at that and then see how many kittens and rabbits are going to want to argue with you.

Great 1st choice.

You know its not a collectable so fire the liveing snot out of it learning trigger control and functions so your able to do it under stress.

9mm rule the 80's for a reason. Plenty of results from a 9mm IMHO to say you have a serious weapon.

The ammunition is cheaper than the 40 or 45 so you can afford to shoot much more which will pay off if you need it.

I used to have a pretty cool Tec-DC9... before it got ripped off. Cheap gun, but I never had a problem with it if I stuck with quality ammo. Had a couple 32 round mags for it.

Sure would like to have that in my collection right about now. Along with the Maadi I had to sell...

Dang it! Kinda like that...

Wow you live in PA? you can get all sorts of high cap magazine mailed to you with no problem.

Unlike Jersey where you cant even get a dam sling shot shipped to you .

Invest in high cap mags 17 and 33 rounders (especially for glocks) they will be fecthing a monster premium when the banned is reintistuted.

Load up.

Nice 9mm - Make sure you carry 147 grain hollow points though. I would recommend

Hornady XTPs

or

Hornady T.A.P.s

Not to rain on your parade.... but I've read a lot of reviews that say the S&W has a nasty trigger pull. After a couple trips to the range you might find that you want to upgrade. Next step up would probably be a Ruger P95, then and XD, then a Glock, then the king supreme (9mm) - the CZ P-01.

There is nothing at all wrong with your pistol! I would argue that the MOST IMPORTANT PART of the gun is THE MAN HOLDING THE GUN!

Your first gun is a big step; many things come with it, especially the presence of mind to handle, store, and use it safely!

CONGRATS!!

Re: My first gun

the big gripe with some (not me) on the 9 is lack of stopping power. proper shot placement can make up for this minor fault

Re: My first gun

Good choice. If it's your first, shoot it as much as you can afford to. Run ammo through it that you intend to use for defense, but also buy cheap ball that you can shoot a lot of and get more practice. Don't limit yourself to dollar per round defense ammo.
